Was looking at getting one of these for my son, as the LC stuff is pretty easy for him to run (he's 2).
I see they were just released, but I can't find any actual photos of the engine. Does anyone know if the front coupler is not a dummy and if it has full running gear? Catalog shows full running gear, but I know enough not to trust the catalog lol

These are based on the starter set 0-8-0s which all had working couplers. No idea if the latest ones are electro couplers though. Starter sets had magnetic couplers.

most of the starter set ones have a dummy front coupler
O-8-0s have working couplers. Always have. This is a 15 year old starter set 0-8-0 with a magnetic working coupler. Hopefully the new ones have electro couplers.

Most of the regular LC 0-8-0s come with dummy couplers. At the price point the separate sale ones are, they def won't have elctro-couplers.
Lionchief 0-8-0 s come with a dummy coupler on the front and a magnetic coupler on the tender. The dummy coupler really isn't a problem on the front though because it couples up to cars just fine. The knuckle just doesn't open.
I got the Southern Railway version. Magnetic couplers on front and rear.
If yours doesn't come with a magnetic coupler they are ten bucks from Lionel.
