I think it is just some fantasy schemes on the EM1 tooling.  Reading carefully, Lionel called these the giants.  The OGR called it Yellowstones.

For the money, and the exclusivity (one per dealer) this seems like more of a fun collectible thing than actual yellowstone production.

Just another example of everyone getting a little too excited near the pending new catalog release!

If it won't be prototypical at $1200.00,  might as well be in "Lionel Lines"

Joe

MichRR714 said that a repainted EM-1 is not really a Yellowstone. Well, yes it is,
as "Yellowstone" refers to a 2-8-8-4 wheel arrangement, regardless of design
(like a "Pacific" is a 4-6-2).

So, Lionel has already produced 2 Yellowstones: the first B&O EM-1 and the Most Impressive
Articulated Ever Built, the SP AC-9 Limas.

But, like "Hudson" (4-6-4, of course), "Yellowstone" does tend to be associated with a par-
ticular railroad - the NP (is that correct?) in the case of the 2-8-8-4. Or was it the DMIR?

Must...find...out.

The flyer sent to dealers says "Yellowstone" and has a photo of what looked to me like a real loco - could not make out the roadname in the e-mail, but I think it was not an EM-1, regardless I ordered the top # of the list (B&O).

These are Legacy locos as is the 9000.  No word about any new Vision products - I'm okay with Lionel sticking with Legacy only if they want to.

I don't think anyone knows, since the catalog isn't out yet, but I expect these to be in the catalog.   I expect the Centipedes will be in there again, along with everything above.  I am curious (and eager to know) what is going to be the premium offering/cover loco: I'd be surprised if it is the Yellowstones, but maybe.  Personally, I'd love to see a Vision Super Chief set.

They might as well do a limited run of Presidential engines while their painting them pacifics. Its been Been 12 years.(or the Blue Mountain 425)

Excited to get a closer look at the 9000 series.  9004 maybe, But why greyhound?  I love the two-tone with white/silver striping and I know all but the last series of 9000s had been equiped for 'emergency passenger" service but.....

Is there any evidence that any were ever pained in the '46 colors? fantasy?

Were they used for passenger? That seems kinda odd since i don't think they ever broke 40mph.

The "Nines" were designed and used for fast freight.  I only recently read somewhere online on the history of the 9000 series that they were delivered in 5 groups.  The source said that all but the last were equipped to handle "emergency passenger" service.  Whatever that would be.  I couldn't find any evidence that they actually did.

To your point 50MPH might have been a clip in 1926 but by the time the greyhound paint scheme came out they would have been long-in-the-the slow.  I just figured it's a fantasy paint job for L to  sell more 9000s.
