Looks like the UP 4-12-2 will come in 9000 black, 9000 grey and 9004 black. Whistle steam smoke is there also. Does not appear to be a Vision Line locomotive.
If its a repainted EM-1 its not really the Yellowstone, I'm looking for. We shall see.
Also some new Shays:
6-11363 - Cass Scenic Railroad LEGACY Scale 2-Truck Shay Locomotive #3
6-11364 - Meadow River Lumber LEGACY Scale 2-Truck Shay Locomotive #1
6-11365 - Weyerhaeuser LEGACY Scale 2-Truck Shay Locomotive #3
6-11366 - Pickering Lumber LEGACY Scale 2-Truck Shay Locomotive #3
6-11367 - Canadian Pacific LEGACY Scale 2-Truck Shay Locomotive #111
6-11368 - Western Maryland LEGACY Scale 2-Truck Shay Locomotive #2
6-11369 - Bethlehem Steel LEGACY Scale 2-Truck Shay Locomotive #5
Keep it coming Ed.. what else ?
I think it is just some fantasy schemes on the EM1 tooling. Reading carefully, Lionel called these the giants. The OGR called it Yellowstones.
For the money, and the exclusivity (one per dealer) this seems like more of a fun collectible thing than actual yellowstone production.
Just another example of everyone getting a little too excited near the pending new catalog release!

If it won't be prototypical at $1200.00, might as well be in "Lionel Lines"
Joe
as "Yellowstone" refers to a 2-8-8-4 wheel arrangement, regardless of design
(like a "Pacific" is a 4-6-2).
So, Lionel has already produced 2 Yellowstones: the first B&O EM-1 and the Most Impressive
Articulated Ever Built, the SP AC-9 Limas.
But, like "Hudson" (4-6-4, of course), "Yellowstone" does tend to be associated with a par-
ticular railroad - the NP (is that correct?) in the case of the 2-8-8-4. Or was it the DMIR?
Must...find...out.
Oh yea Bob.. your right.. I was excited.. I've returned to earth now.
DM500, sorry for not clarifying earlier.. I'd like a DMIR Yellowstone. When I think of a Yellowstone, I guess I think DMIR.
MICH - no clarification needed. I'm just being fussy. But a big, expensive loco like
that needs to be accurate, I'd think.
MTH made a beautiful DMIR Yellowstone; a friend has one. Runs beautifully and only
has PS1. Easy ERR Commander upgrade....!
Can we just wait until the announcement to see what it is? Really, you guys whipping into a frenzy before we get to see what the product announcement is on Friday.
Lionel called these 'the giants' which is not 'the Yellowstones'.
So lets see Friday...
The flyer sent to dealers says "Yellowstone" and has a photo of what looked to me like a real loco - could not make out the roadname in the e-mail, but I think it was not an EM-1, regardless I ordered the top # of the list (B&O).
These are Legacy locos as is the 9000. No word about any new Vision products - I'm okay with Lionel sticking with Legacy only if they want to.
But, like "Hudson" (4-6-4, of course),
Except when a 4-6-4 is a "Baltic," (Milwaukee)
Or when a 2-10-4 is a "Colorado," (CB&Q)
Or when a 4-8-4 is a "Niagara," (NYC) or an "800" (UP.)
You get the picture...
Rusty
LMAO!!!
THANKS FOR THE FUNNY

Heres' everything you ever wanted to know about a "Yellowstone".

So what are we looking at in these posts, "uncataloged steam", "cataloged steam"or both? Are there any surprises left in the catalog????
I don't think anyone knows, since the catalog isn't out yet, but I expect these to be in the catalog. I expect the Centipedes will be in there again, along with everything above. I am curious (and eager to know) what is going to be the premium offering/cover loco: I'd be surprised if it is the Yellowstones, but maybe. Personally, I'd love to see a Vision Super Chief set.
Is the PWC series coming back in this catalog or any info on the CC series?
Are there any surprises left in the catalog???? Yes, I'm sure there will be some. Just look at all the surprises so far and the catalog isnt even out yet.

They might as well do a limited run of Presidential engines while their painting them pacifics. Its been Been 12 years.(or the Blue Mountain 425)
Excited to get a closer look at the 9000 series. 9004 maybe, But why greyhound? I love the two-tone with white/silver striping and I know all but the last series of 9000s had been equiped for 'emergency passenger" service but.....
Is there any evidence that any were ever pained in the '46 colors? fantasy?

Were they used for passenger? That seems kinda odd since i don't think they ever broke 40mph.
The "Nines" were designed and used for fast freight. I only recently read somewhere online on the history of the 9000 series that they were delivered in 5 groups. The source said that all but the last were equipped to handle "emergency passenger" service. Whatever that would be. I couldn't find any evidence that they actually did.
To your point 50MPH might have been a clip in 1926 but by the time the greyhound paint scheme came out they would have been long-in-the-the slow. I just figured it's a fantasy paint job for L to sell more 9000s.
>>Were they used for passenger? That seems kinda odd since i don't think they ever broke 40mph.<<
In the official UP guide, it states 9000 series engines were designed for 35mph but routinely run at up to 60mph with few problems
Joe.
Just got the Trainworld e-mail as well, no shays, that was an assumption based on the owners manuals on the Lionel website, two traditional sized GG1's, DDX-35 powered and non-powered, steam already listed, and the piece I want, the EM-1 pilot uncataloged and undercorated.
Did Trainworld receive their dealer copy already?
"Just got an email from train world for these, some diesels and gg-1's all avail to order now"
Mind if I ask what Trainworlds price was on the 9000?
Joe
jc642 - As far as I know the UP (9000 & 9004) 4-12-2 is not being released as part of these so far. I am sure it will be in the catalog.
This will clear up some of the confusion :http://www.trainworld.com/2012_volume_1.htm
I'm just curious if these are just advance seperate offerings like the northerns and mallets were, or if these will make up part of the catalog......we'll see!
The concept photo doesn't quite look like the Lionel EM-1 tooling. Note the wheel flanges.
""This will clear up some of the confusion :http://www.trainworld.com/2012_volume_1.htm"
Wow, Not much of a "early buy" discount..
Must know something we don't.
Joe
Gunny
I have heard that outside the B&O loco, there are less than 100 pcs per model---yikes!
