I just bought this set and really enjoy it! The only thing is that Lionel got the cab number on the RS-3 wrong. LIRR never ran a RS-3 numbered 1550. Also when will they put die-cast trucks and couplers on there starter set rolling stock? And displeased with the singal motor in the loco. But other than that it looks great. Oh! new here so hi to everyone!

They're already doing that with many of the starter sets. Just not the one you bought. Lionel is maintaining a wider array of price-points, and that's why the difference in set equipment.

I remember I bought the K-Line "Greenport Scoot" LIRR set years ago and was much better quality. Hey at least no vista domes like MTH & rmt's! although they have great paint schemes for their LIRR cars!
pics?
I had a question about the RS-3 it defiantly is a scale model or close to it. Was it based on the old K-Line RS-3's? Also does anyone know a cheap way of adding sound? It is so quiet (besides the typical loud lionelness) compared to my MTH LIRR RS-1?

1550
That's funny!
why is that funny
Im guessing because LIRR did not own one of that number plus the model looks more like an RS-2
Not easy adding sound to the set. It is a starter set so it still is a great way to get someone interested.
My CC santa fe freight alco has a nice digital horn, maybe see if you can order the sound board?
Lionel's RS-3 used to have a stamped metal frame & handrails, but they cheapened it up to offer it as a budget version several years ago. I had a nice red Lehigh Valley version about 20 years ago.
