Hi

Has anyone installed LED in the Lionel Morris and Essex passenager cars of the 1950? Everything I have seen or read from this and other forums is to install the LED on the roof. The way these are made there are steel ribs that go from the floor, along the side, along the roof and down back to the floor. The roof is attached to ribs via screws. The ribs and space where passenager get and off has sheet metal walls. So attaching the led to the roof is not real an option.  I was think of running the LED on floor would that work? Good idea, bad idea, off the wall or does someone have a better idea?

Lay a strip in on the floor and see how it looks setting the car back together.

I'd have to see how the roof is made to judge if you could install on the roof, I'm not familiar with those cars.

One thing to keep in mind for metal surfaces.  The end of the strips where you make the connection can short to the metal surface, that would be a bad thing.  In metal cars, I put a small piece of Kapton tape under the connection area.

I don't see any reason to not put them on the roof. A set of three between each bracket would seem to fit. grj also uses(and I do now) the snap board connectors to create plugs. That way you can disconnect the roof lights for removal of the roof and the driver is mounted to the floor.

grj, any pics of that stuff? The one thread from old was deleted for some reason.
