Lionel, MTH, Atlas O.............How about offering some hoppers with "Data Only"? No road names!

I like that idea!
It is an interesting idea. But you could buy hopper cars and just remove the lettering you want to. I've done that with several locos and cabooses and such and relabeled: I use Goof Off to remove just those letters I want to, leaving the small details. It's really easy enough.
What with Champ Decal Co. long gone out of business and MicroScale "up for sale", the shortage of "O Scale" decals is becoming more and more of a problem. Thus, how would a person not experienced in the ways of O Scale 2-Rail shows/swaps, find correct decals to finish the cars?
Nope. Not on my pike.
The paint schemes, logos, slogans and colors add more interest to railroad cars.
It was all over after the late 70’s, early eighties in my opinion.
The decals for them would have to be made using a quality laser jet printer and Microscale decal film.
People will have to use standard fonts, unless they have photo retouching programs that can isolate markings in uploaded photos.
It is better for the manufacturers to make a production of those data only covered each year, rather than cancel everything because a minimum order was not met during a short order period.
Some of the impossible fantasy schemes that MTH put on the ACF Center Flow Hoppers, such as 7UP, would most likely take a long time to remove, even with 99% Alcohol.

I wanted to contact MTH about doing a special run of their coal porter in SR. I'm not sure what a minimum order would be? I missed the one they offered:

I thought you had read my mind Frank! (again)

Lee,
I've thought of using Goof Off, never had the guts to do it though. I was afraid it would melt the plastic. Sound like you have no issues though.
I use Goof Off all the time in my shop, great stuff. If it won't remove something, it isn't going to come off!
Thanks for the information, think I'll give it a shot.

I'm sure Lee's way is effective but if you have a piece of rolling stock around you don't use or particularly care about use it as a practice piece to see how it works.
I would definitely test it somewhere first - I always do, but I have not had Goof Off hurt plastic or paint on any loco or rolling stock. On the other hand there is always a first time and I do expect to run inot problems somewhere down the road. So test it, yes.
You might have seen the post recently about the four locos I relabeled as Canon City, Blanca and Glen Canyon Railroad. I used Goof Off only on the graphics I wanted to remove on them and the matching caboose.
ONE THING IT WILL RUIN: A CD. We had a DVD CC that had somehow gotten a piece of scotch tape on it that left a sticky resideue. It use Goof Off. it melted the CD's surface instantly!
I posted about the SR thinking that at least with the Data only car, the work is almost complete. All I'd have to do is add the road lettering.
Wouldn't the leased cars just have the basic lettering on them anyways?
Atlas O offered the 55 Ton Hoppers Data Only in black and red a few years ago.
A neat idea for someone like me who likes the final years of the PRR, through PC, and early Conrail.
