Lionel Niagara gear repair | O Gauge Railroading On Line Forum

My friend is trying to fix a gear for his friend in the Lionel 6-28069 Niagara from about 12 years back. Evidently it's a plastic gear that meshes with metal and was destined to fail in a heavy engine. Does anyone know if a replacement metal gear has been made and where it might be available? Any suggestions for a repair will be appreciated and passed on.

You can order metal replacement gears from Lionel.

The part number is 6208069900 for the pair.

There was an extensive thread here with info on how to do all the disassembly.

I haven't done mine, but Alex's instructions are very well respected as he has done a ton of these.
