Lionel No. 042 hand operated switch (parts & repair possible?)

Wouldn't the rails off another 022 or 042 switch work.  Ive seen junkers for 5.00 ir less at train shows.

The O22-7 swivel rail assembly is $2.50 at www.ttender.com.

The center will need to be removed. Not a big deal until replacing the eyelet. The third rail power goes through the eyelet. Not a easy job without a good roll punch as a lot of electrical resistance can happen there. Just a heads-up.

I'd say just keep the original for display but get a better one at a show for a few bucks to run on. The 042's are what I run on my layout - no wiring, and easy to reach on my 4x12 layout.

Thanks for the info and advice gents...It looks like I have a few options to pursue here.
