Back in the 80's there was a Plastic Lens company that sold glass optical headlight lenses that replaced the factory lens. These would cast a light beam far ahead of the loco. Does anyone know of a current company that has such a product?

I bought some plastic ones at york many years ago. Different sizes for different engines including diesels. Dont remember the name but im sure they were located in Danville CT.
I would try using a piece of Plexiglas rod
It was Danbury, CT but I too forgot their name.

That is the company I remember. I had installed these lenses in several postwar engines at the time and it really improved the light effect. The only one I have left is on a PRR T1 I built from an OGR (or OSR) multi part series from the 1980's. Did you utilize any of these?
Another thing that does wonders is an LED replacement. The focused beam from the LED makes a world of difference from an incandescent bulb.
Mark Wags: Could you show some pictures of your T-1? I read that series too, and I've gotten the parts for a retirement project to make an S-1 in the same manner. Just curious to see how yours turned out.

And the neat part is, you can do a drop in LED replacement on Scout locos and the like...
Plug: John makes a nifty constant voltage board which works great when you replace the headlight lens with an LED!
