Hi guys,

Has anybody ever rewired one of these gates on the inside. I took one apart, repainted it and now want to get it working. The problem I'm having is that the inside was a real mess. The wires were terrible and the 2 pieces that operate the gate are in rough shape. I don't even know what they're called, so if anybody does, that would be a big help. I don't have a clue how to rewire it. Is it possible to get new parts for the inside? I can't seem to find any on MTH's parts site. Thanks in advance for any help.

The crossing gates should be fairly straightforward to rewire. The operating mechanism is a coil and plunger (also called a solenoid). One wire of each coil goes to ground (usually the metal accessory itself), and the other coil wire goes to one of the terminal posts. Note that one terminal post is usually connected to ground, so connect the coil wires to the other terminal post. The lamp wire gets connected to the same terminal post as the coils. Here is a parts list for the #47, and here is a schematic of the postwar #252 to give you an idea of how to wire the accessory.
