I would imagine they work much like the Vision sound reefer, but without the dialog sequences and user interaction (via Legacy/TMCC remotes).

The Vision reefer is a big hit at shows.  I can't wait until the PS-1's come in so I can run them all together in the same train (I ordered 3 of them along with the new Vision reefer sets).  it's going to be one noisy train.

There have been several discussions about the cars.  They will be very similar to the Vision Line Reefers without TMCC as Andy states.  They do not have the accelerometer that was in the Vision Line Tank Cars, so they don't react to curves like the tank cars do.  I believe they're silent when stopped, and the sound effects start when they're moving.  They also have a MIN/MAX switch to vary the quantity and variety of the generated sounds.

So we are thinking the flange squeal will be occurring randomly once the car is moving?

I just ordered one, I want to see it before adding them to the fleet.   I did order several sensor cars, I'm going to take a couple apart and put the sensors in favored TMCC locomotives.

That makes me wonder.. possible to wire the run/pgm switch from the sensor car to the TMCC engine's run/pgm switch to only have one? That would sure be a cool way of going about it!

Well, you could change the switch to a DPDT switch and it would certainly work.  I don't know about paralleling the two, my sense it it may work, but I'd have to see the electronics to know for sure.

However, I'm guessing that you'll have to talk to the sensor car's electronics using the Legacy 9-bit protocol, so paralleling it may be an issue for the configuration of the sensor car logic.  Once it's programmed, you're good anyway, how often are you changing the TMCC ID?

If you're just changing the ID, flip both switches, program the new ID, and flip them back, job done.

I suspect I'll have to see the car and electronic guts to know for sure how I'm going to approach the issue.

I took a gamble since I love my VL reefer, and with the news that the sounds would be the same, minus the Cab triggered ones, I ordered one of each.  I can't wait until they all get here so I can have one noisy train!  I will admit not being to trigger brake noise will be missed, but having the other sounds are better then the no sounds all my other freight cars give me.

The reefers are cool, I bagged a second set so I'd have two sound cars.

The Vision Line Ethanol tank cars set the standard, there are two sound cars in the set, and they also reacted to curves and change the sound.  Of course, they also have the command interface to trigger the load and unload sequence.

I do have a couple of my own audio boards in other boxcars, so I can have a very noisy train.  Too bad the Ethanol tank cars and the PFE reefers are from a totally different era, they don't match up well in a single consist.
