I look at it this way, Lionel obviously is doing everything to make these correct upon delivery. I have no idea what the hold up is but if they released them any earlier then we'd have countless threads about issues. While I tend to agree the delays stink, I also believe getting an engine with issues is worse. I'll take the delay any day. They'll get here soon enough.
100% Marty.
the lack of a the Base 3 is more egregious than 90....
I'm trying to make do with the other 150+ locomotives I have to run. So far, so good.
A dealer told me that all were in Concord last November and all went back to China. No information as to why, fix or new date. They will arrive when the container is backed to the dock.

Gary:
Wow. That's big news. If what the dealer told you is accurate, there is likely to be a lengthy delay.

Dealers have been known to be wrong.

My local train store always says, "when it comes in we'll let you know" as well as, "we don't listen to what anyone is saying online, when we see it, then it's a fact." I know that they told me a bunch of years back everything got tied up in the ports for the Christmas run. I think they said it got released around April(both manufacturers at different times).

I am not sure how others feel, but I don't have any issue waiting. I'd much rather receive It in working condition then have to send it back.

Makes a compelling case for no deposit preorders.
I have no dog on this fight but I recently realized there is no 2023 brass hybrid one has to wonder if that has something to do with 90’s delay
Just a crazy thought…
Is 90 Still in the shop for its mandated inspection? Is Lionel now waiting until 90 is done with its inspection to do some sort of promo?
I may just be full of it here, but I had this idea a few days ago. Probably far fetched, but I saw this thread heat up again, so I thought I would add my 2 cents.
I have no dog in this fight either, although I love the 90!!!!! My thought has always been, maybe Lionels electronics and the brass may not play nice together..But, I can't wait to see the 90.. I love my 89.
The Legacy #89 is pulling my Strasburg excursion until #90 is out of whatever shop it's in.
Yes #90 is still under its routine maintenance, but Lionel waiting to release there model of it until it is back in service would be counterproductive on their end. Not only would it hit their bottom line, potential sales are out the window. They have to be fixing something because they don't want to catch holy heck(the other word with the double L's).

I totally agree. Like I had said, it was just a thought. And with some companies today trying to make these big PR splashes, I don’t necessarily think a PR stunt is out of the realm of possibility.
Anything with "Strasburg" on it sells out

Yeah, that is also true. I just don't see them doing it in this case. It could be that they want a working model that is actually true to the real deal, and maybe there was an agreement to unveil the first to the Strasburg Railroad. That I would definitely believe because that would be the holiest of holys to do for a PR stunt.

In that case, one wonders why it took Lionel so long to get around to doing decent Strasburg locomotives! Still looking for #475...
4-8-0 #475 has to be next!
What get's me is why all the mystery? This is not the production of some highly classified weapon system. It is a model train for heavens sake.
Lionel if you are having problems with getting this engine delivered just say so and be done with it. Why foster all this speculation and theories when you could simply and officially notify dealers/customers what is going on and when the next ETA date is expected.
End of story.
All this secrecy is so much nonsense, and does not reflect well on Lionel IMO.

Just curious but did anyone email them and ask?
@MartyE, I would suspect if anyone did email it may go unanswered or fall into their policy of "upcoming products". Either way I would like everyone else like to know what exactly is that is going on with them, but I think we may never know. The only way anything would be communicated i would think would be "Demos with Dave". I do know that he will often talk about what was going on with a product when he has it in front of him, much like with the Acela if I remember right.
I've resigned myself to getting it when and if it ever ships.
I was just now billed for Lionel Strasburg #90 Item 2231050 2-10-0 (1967/2020 version) brass hybrid. I think that means they are released. No word on the item being shipped, however. Anyone have any info?
There's A few YouTube videos up
Three of them just showed up at a local hobby shop down Washington DC way; two of which were spoken for already.
Thank you Tom and Run A Muck. I will check out the videos.
I could not find new videos.
Is there a link?

I have not been able to find them either.
Marty, thank you.
It looks great.
Hope to see mine in the next 12 months😊
Thank you, Marty. Most appreciated!

Both videos are great. Looks like the 90 was worth the wait. Truly should become a collector item.
Can't wait for mine to arrive. Sounds and looks good.
Finally the truth is revealed. #90 really exists. I like the 20 and the 50 versions but not the combined cost to buy both. If I could not be born handsome, why could I not have been born rich?

All things come to him who waits.
If so, you should get ready for fulfillment if the videos and arrivals at local hobby shops are any indication!
BTW which version did you preorder?
Looking forward to my Pilot version.
I watched both videos that Marty linked. Even though the second video is shorter and shot vertically, I like it better. The music in the first one cuts out on listening to the sound of the engine.
Also, in the first video, why is the smoking whistle smoking before it is being blown? I know that someone had posted either a Big Boy video or a Challenger where that was going on as well. Is that overfilled or just blowing off steam(pardon the pun, couldn't resist)?
