It's that time of year again, when a manufacture releases a new catalog! Lionel this time, what do you predict/want?
My list:
SD40/GP38/GP40 CSX "-3" rebuilds
Road specific GP40-2
More high hood locomotives (look above)
GP38-2
GP15
AC6000's in regular paint (no stupid heritage schemes this time!)
AC4400CW

That would be my hopes. What comes out is anyone's guess but the dealers and those they tell.
Well since I just purchased a Brass prototypically correct late steam era N&W Cabin car they(Lionel) will now make them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

86' Santa Fe 8-Door Hi-Cube Boxcar. Outside of that - I don't have much reason to look in the lionel catalog.
1) Legacy Niagara with whistle steam
2) Legacy Dreyfuss Hudson with whistle steam 1938 & 1940 20th CENTURY LIMITED paint schemes
Unfortunately, whatever comes out will be discussed, debated and complained about like every other catalog over the years. 
Per my buying habits, whatever is in the catalog probably won't be an option for several years!
If they are not in the upcoming catalog(s), I would like to see for the next one (all O SCALE):
Legacy Canadian Pacific ES44ac or Dash 9 or AC4400 or AC6000
Legacy freight sound cars
Legacy UP SD40-2 or UP SD60
Legacy Vision UP GTEL, probably Veranda version
Legacy Santa Fe diner car- aluminum sided

I'd love to see more freight sound cars. Perhaps versions just with wheel scrape and brake sounds.
Lionel has really been stepping up with new tooling on large, scale current-day rolling stock like the 86ft boxcars and 89' autoracks.
I am going to say 53ft-platform well cars with 53ft current-day highway trailers.
I'd love to see :
- a return of the GS-4 with whistle steam and 21" passenger cars
- N&W Class A with whistle steam
- a new batch of PS-1 boxcars
My pipe dream is to see a Milwaukee Road F7 and a matching passenger consist
My thoughts are kinda there with BIGJOHN and PETER A, along with the unstreamlined NYC J3A Hudson, L3A Mohawk, and NKP 587 Mikado.
What I most think we're going to get: more moaning and groaning. 
If Lionel embraces the issues, fixes them, brags about it, shows me the new gearbox innards (and drive shafts?), a corrected Legacy Niagara will be a problem for me, as I will buy one. Darn it.
A more agile PT tender wouldn't hurt, either.
Of course, a NYC J3a Hudson 2.0 (with PT tender, Worthington FWH, Selkirk smokebox front, relocated power reverse and modified running boards) would also get me cooking.
Both? Stop it; just stop it.
Obviously I am looking for NYC stuff so I may as well throw these 2 in as well. Both with legacy and whistle steam 
New tooling for the K-5 would be pretty awesome!

Hopefully some more AC6000's (with those stupid heritage schemes this time!)

Big John - how could I have been so stupid?!
The K-5, of course. So obvious it got past me. I have the 3rd Rail Mercury (nice loco) K-5, but the un-streamlined one is a loco that actually surprises me by its absence in the major 3RO catalogues, since big, scale steam showed up 20+ years ago. Important loco, bankable road name, Hudson ancestor.

, no toy/model train manufacturer nowadays issues a catalog. I don't view ANY of the familiar big names in our hobby as "manufacturers" anymore. To be more accurate, they are IMPORTERS. They publish catalogs, and collect dealer pre-orders. (A few of them like Sunset/GGD/3rdRail deal direct with consumers.) THEN they begin the process of searching for and negotiating with overseas factories to determine which manufacturer can give them assembly line time at a given cost. With few exceptions, most of our toy/model trains are "manufactured" overseas.
Perhaps we'll be surprised otherwise (which would be largely welcome), but I'm expecting Lionel's catalog due out a week from today will continue to contain eye-popping MSRP's.

Hoping for a Lionmaster Pennsy T1 with Whistle Steam. Or, a Legacy Milwaukee Road Class A Hiawatha 4-4-2 with Whistle Steam. Or PLEASE LIONEL GIVE ME AN ATSF 1800 CLASS 2-6-2!

That's what I am hoping for too! MTH just put one out but I would love a Legacy version.
Not sure if the Class A is blacklisted due to the law suit. It's not been produced in a long time.
Would love to find a few Military related LionChief plus diesel engines (Army, Navy/ Marines) or a LCplus Area 51/alien diesel in the upcoming catalog.

I expect to see "Build to Order" on all engines. When you see this as an increasing trend it may be reflective of what is happening in the market. The caveat in this policy may be getting repair parts for a "Build to Order" engine. I do not see this increasing sales. When buyers lay down a bunch of cash, they typically want to see the item before they buy it.
What I actually want are the return of the Pullman-Standard Double-Door 60' Boxcars, this time in paint schemes for the Grand Trunk Western 'the Good Track road' blue and ILLINOIS CENTRAL GULF.

Does anybody have any specific requests for Montana Rail Link freight cars from the Lionel O scale line?
A specific MRL flat car, gondola, open-top hopper, covered hopper, boxcar, or a caboose?

You can still find the Atlas O cars pretty easily if those will work for you.
I have the 2nd and 3rd road numbers of the Atlas O Grand Trunk Western ACF 60' double-door box cars, I need one of the Pullman-Standard 60' Double-Door Boxcars in the GTW bright blue scheme to contrast with it.

More command control accessories and maybe some cars with sound, box cars or other rolling stock.
I'm eventually hoping for a Legacy BNSF crane car and tender. But that's an expensive pair and I was hoping that would be another catalog or two down the road, if it is even offered.
