Inside, Inside, not sticking out. How hard is that. OK, I feel better. I did order some parts from Lionel today. Man they have that down cold. It's easy. Don
There is no excuse for whatever flawed designing caused Lionel's window glass to protrude outside the window frames. Their windows look like Lego bricks. If Kato can make a streamlined car with correct windows in N scale, Lionel should have been able to pull it off in O.
Don, where is that observation car located? That's gotta be over 80 years old (look at all the rivets on the side). All the old open/close sash windows have been replaced with modern sealed windows. Nice bashing project but I'd definitely have somebody laser-cut the windows for me, LOL.
Jerry, it's at the California Railroad Museum in Sacramento. I was lucky enough to do some filming there just before we moved. The back shop is not opened to the public but is amazing. Don

I have the Superliner cars by Lionel. The windows are the same way. It is the one flaw that hurts the overall appearance of the car.
(goes to look at his)
Well, at least I can tell them apart from the K-Line ones now

Considering what Lionel can do with their Vision Line there is no excuse for the windows on the passenger cars.

quote:it's a shame that they just can't make new molds for the windows with a lip that sits on the inside of the car. This lip could be glued to the inside of the body and in that way the outside surface of the window would sit even with the outside body of the car?
Mario,
That is the way it should have been done and the way the vestibule window is done. You are on the right track. But, the problem with what you suggest is that then the actual hole for the window, as it is now, would be too small. In other words, the hole in the car body needs to be as big as the entire window piece is now (including the outside lip w/the silver detail). And, that means all new window pieces would need to be made larger and with the lip on the inside.
Without drawing a picture, that is about as well as I can explain the situation.
I see what you are saying Jim. In short, bigger openings = new tooling = alot of money. I still feel the Lionel name is worth the cost to fix this obvious "opps".
