Hi everyone.

My LIonmaster bigboy 4011 with whistle smoke has suddenly lost its sound. I have tried another tender - no joy, but 4011's tender works fine behind other locos. Re-set has no effect. I run with TMCC

I assume I am therefore looking at a failure of the engine IR tether but thought it best to check with you guys before ordering another one.

Have I missed anything?

Thanks MIKE

John - you make a good point. When it stopped I noticed the wire to the truck - presumably an earth had broken and soldered that assuming all would be well - I never thought of checking under the heat shrink. I guess if something snagged the wiring it might have done it there as well. I will report back.

Thanks for your reply.

Hi John,

You were right.

The wires hadn't broken under the insulation though it was further up where 3/4 wires join the two from the IR via a tiny circuit board. Looks like the shrink wrap got caught as the trailing truck or draw bar moved.

I don't have the soldering skills or a steady enough hand to attempt a re-solder so have ordered the assembly from Lionel that includes the circuit board already wired. It cost me $6 more but this is insignificant compared to postage as it  will be coming to me in England!

Thanks again.

I had this problem the shrink tubing in the tether caused it so, I would check the shrink wrapping. (My vocabulary is horrible),Has to be the IR sensor in the Tether of the tender.
