Lionmaster Legacy Question

Ether an older TMCC base or Base 1L and the DCS to TMCC/Legacy cable from MTH to operate it via the DCS remote. A Cab1 or 1L is optional but IMO recommended.

First, thank you both for your responses.  Marty and John, just so I can be crystal clear.  You are both saying that I can use my existing DCS remote with the Base 1L and based on Marty's suggestion, I can ( should) purchase a CAB L1 at a later time.  I would rather go with the Base L1 rather than the TMCC base for obvious reasons.  The only other item I will need id the TMCC/LEGACY Cable from MTH. This is a big help and I appreciate it.

Correct.  The Base1L will work fine with the MTH cable.  The only reason I suggested getting a CAB1L, even if at a later date, is you can use it to quill the Legacy horn and can come in handy for trouble shooting.

   Chief Bob both Marty and Guns a while back advised me in the same way, and it does works very well.   The reason for my eventual addition of the Legacy 990 and Cab2 was because I wanted to invest in a Legacy Shay, with all the cool sounds and running options.  The Cab1 could only run certain aspects of the Legacy Engine.  I was like you for many years and did not want to make the big investment into Legacy, I finally broke down and purchased the Legacy 990 and I am really glad I did, I really like the Cab2 remote control, and full Legacy control of my Legacy engines, and wireless Command Control FasTrack switches.  If you only have TMCC engines stay with the Cab1, if you eventually invest in a couple Legacy engines then consider upgrading to the Legacy 990 unit and the Cab2.

I know I'll probably end up like you with the Full-Blown Legacy 990 at some point but right now I only have the one Legacy  SD80 MAC and all the rest are MTH P2 and P3 diesels (a total of 4 because my love affair with model railroading was rekindled only recently)but I must admit, I really like the MTH stuff.   Being retired, I keep a watchful eye on my model railroad budget and MTH Railking offers a very nice locomotive usually at a reasonable price point.  I try to buy "New" when I can and steer away from the "Used" because of the complexity of the modern electronics and the cost of repair.  Don't get me wrong, I like the Legacy stuff, but I drive a FORD because I can't justify the extra cost of a LEXUS and they'll both get me to where I want to go.   It's just that the LEXUS does it with more style.   Just my 2 cents, your mileage may vary.

This has me thinking would I be better off if I got a cab1L and base for 1L to run my legacy lionemaster engine than the old cab1 set up? Can't swing a legacy set up at present 

The difference between the Legacy Lite setup and the full Legacy 990 set is about $100 street price.  When I run TMCC at the club, I frequently reach for the CAB1-L, but for Legacy stuff, I want the CAB2.

Depends on if you use all the bells and whistles (features) or just run the trains.  With a single engine and basic train running I don't think you "need" the CAB-2.  Maybe a local LHS can demo both for you.  G

Well based on the initial inquiry, the Base1L is still my recommendation.  If you plan on purchasing more Legacy engine then I would consider a 990.  The nice thing about the Base1L is it can be purchase separately.  If you're not planning to dive into Legacy and Lionel control the base is a cost effect route.

   I have a few Ford vehicles myself, an old Bronco II work vehicle, an Explorer for my wife, my Expedition and a beautiful old Ford Motor Home, to Grouse hunt and Fly Fish from.  I do understand where you are coming from, and I still believe in American made also.  I purchase at least one Weaver item each Christmas.
