How many LIRR cars were used on the SIRT? How were they moved to and from Staten Island? Why didn't they stay there" The seats were far more comfortable.

Hi Having worked in clifton shop at the time i only remember three cars.
Hi to answer more of your questions. they were car floated to staten island from probably brooklyn or long island city car floats. I was assigned to work with the LIRR rep that was sent with the cars for a smooth transaction. We had to adjust the line voltage and amperage because the sirt substations were not able to provide the amperage used on the llirr. Lirr third rail voltage was at 700 volts on most lines with hundreds of amps if needed . the SIRT fell far short of that load so we tweeked them down to be able to run on the line which they did for the donation. but it did take its tole on the equipment. Yes the seats and AC was very nice
I only rode them once or twice, the two doors per side were inadequate and they were didn't have much get-up-and-go but the "tweaking" certainly would explain that. Is my recollection of deep red vinyl or leatherette seats correct?

Great photos Ben! Thank you!
It's amazing what forty plus years will do to one's memory.
Did you get my message inquiring as to your source for O Gauge MUE parts? I am never sure how all that works on the Forum...
