I just got an email about some parts available from this GE 8-40B Locomotive engine. It really got me wondering..... maybe I could get a hold of the whole thing? Just thinking out loud and I'll get slammed, I know. If I don't ask here, then where?

How much do these go for if in decent shape? Could a person own one like a caboose or cars that I've seen? There is a museum in Medina NY that has some trackage. Maybe some kind of deal could be made for storage during a rebuild?

Sure, you can own a diesel! Why not? And you can certainly ask about space at the museum. One of our museum members stores his (inoperable) diesel in our rail yard, so it certainly isn't out of the question.

That is a great site for me. It answers most of my thoughts. Of course, I'm just thinking right now or whatever you'd like to call it.

No, I don't have the type of cash in hand right now for that.
