I have several MTH Premiere PS-2 steam locomotives that will need to be stored for over a year. Is it better to remove the Ni-cad batteries or leave them in the tender?
I'd take those out, when it comes time to revive them, treat them to a new battery. Those are very old batteries and well past their projected lifetime.
I just pulled a couple of ni-cd batteries from some 10+ year old ps2 engines. They weren't pretty, and even managed to start corroding the wires soldered to them.
I haven't seen ni-mh batteries do this but given the chance they might. Best option is to replace them with a super capacitor or BCR and never worry about another battery again.
