The stock resistor is 27 ohm. How low can I safely go?? I did one years ago, smoked great, but was warned that it could do damage to the boards if not more.

I've used 20 ohms as my lower limit. In measuring the temperature of the smoke triac after operation of the smoke unit for 15 minutes on 18V track power, it was at 85C. Getting warm, but well within it's operating range. Dropping the resistor to 18 ohms it shot up to over 100C, too warm for me to be comfortable with that long term. Some folks have suggested 16 ohms, that warmed it up to over 120C, way too hot IMO.
You can also use a 22 ohm 2 watt resistor. This is easier on the triac driving it, harder on the resistor but resistors are far easier and cheaper to replace.

I would suggest to enlarge the air intake hole to 3/16". This will allow a larger increase in the volume smoke being discharged.

Definitely aware of the Mike Reagan video and tweak! I've don it on all my TMCC engines over the years!!
