It really makes me happy to see all the people getting there Big Boys and even those who are at least getting tracking numbers. UPS did a great job and I think it was a great idea to double box these. From now on when ever i have an expensive engine coming I'm going to request double box.

Big Boy made to East Central Illinois from Nassau Hobby in less than 48 Hrs. I'm impressed! Runs perfectly. Looks and sounds great.
Home from church and UPS was nice enough to put in the house... Monsoon outside and AC on in Va. Two days as promised by Nassau. Great job!
I picked mine up at the store, so no shipping. Are they actually putting another box around the Lionel shipping container? A nice touch with this one was the Styrofoam all around the product box in the Lionel shipper, that should minimize damage as well.
Maybe the grade isn't the major problem, we'll have to figure a way to get about 30 amps to the tracks!
Good point! I wonder if anyone can report what the BB draws?
No load, level track, all smoke on, anywhere from 2.5 to 3.5A on my meter. More than any other engine I've tested!
woohee! That might make even double heading a problem. Add smoke, add a grade and some rolling stock (45 PFEs in my case) and that TIU is history!
One would assume that the motors won't draw as much double-heading. If you have all those PFE reefers, I'll just bring the motive power.

Let's do it! Legacy is running very well at the club.
I got my UPS notice from CR a few hours ago. I will not see my 2 until Tuesday along with the DL-cabforward and a UP ES44AC. So I will celebrating Christmas a little late this year.

A little late, but certainly BIG!
Hadn't checked my email or been on the forum lately so came home earlier to find a big (boy) Christmas surprise at my front door! I won't open it till tomorrow though. Will be nice to open a big box on Christmas that contains a toy after all these years. Peter
sure hope everyone is registering their big boy at the vision line web site
and you are applying for the 10 dollar rebate.
now back to running that big boy!!!
Merry Christmas!
Now, here's a really crazy question for those that have theirs already, have you tried it on anything smaller than O72? I want to know just how low they can go since I remember reading on here that the Cab Forward can actually do O54.

Thanks a bunch for heads up...I didn't know about this. Will definitely register mine..Thanks!!!
Everyone carefully go over the entire engine to make sure everything is functioning properly. I'm sure mine is an easy fix just wanted to share this with you guys.
Hope everyone had a wonderful safe Christmas!!

Thanks Marty, I didn't know about that and will definitely try that when I get home. I did try the light button that I think was on the speed button page but that was just the engine marker lights. Are the marker lights for both tender and engine independent? if so then there's a pretty good chance that it is just the Aux 2 button that will do the trick.
Yep. Independent. Not sure if the BB has that option but it's something to check. Keep in mind that the Aux2 lighting menu covers all possible lighting optionS. Your engine has to be equipped for them to work.

Thanks Marty!! Will definitely try it when I get home and will report back. I definitely didn't go into that menu if the BB has it so it just might have been shut off at factory.
Well, this Thread did it, I now have a Big Boy 4014 Purchased and hopefully will get it next week. WOW....Its an addiction, and a really pricy one at That!!! I am having the engine picked up and not mailed. Maybe, it will be fine out of the box. I am so excited after hearing all the reviews and just said to myself, Get it, or Be Sorry...Nuff Sayd.
Larry,
We tried to get you on the band wagon during the preorder! You'll love it and with all those PFE Reefers you have, it'll be a sight to behold!
I'm waiting on mine to arrive also.
I saw somebody write this: "The Vision Line Challenger was a home run, the VL Big Boy is a grand slam"
I can't agree more. Welcome to the owner's club of Lionel's epic locomotive.

Matt,
Similar problem with my 4014, only the center red LED is not functioning properly. Not a happy camper at all.
It was working fine for the first two days, but today I noticed it did not illuminate...in fact it is very dim and flickers as my locomotive moves across the layout. I suspect there is a loose wire or something, fortunately I am close to my LHS, so heading there Monday to have the technician look at and hopefully resolve.
Let me know what you find if you disassemble the shell, I'd surmise our issues are similar in terms or the culprit.
Best,
Michael
Marty, just got home as I was away since Christmas day. The first thing I did was go into that Aux 2 menu and hit the button for the tender markers and it's now working great..thanks a bunch as I didn't even know about that lighting menu and it's not even in the manual which is strange. I checked everything else and everything is working great!! Thanks again!!!..made my day :-)

I spoke to soon! The rear marker lights went out again and now they are not coming back on. Not sure if it's software related or hardware but before i take apart the tender Mayne I'll call lionel first. Not a big issue but no matter what I don't want to send the whole engine in just for that..don't want to risk getting damaged during shipping. Anyone have any suggestions?
Well it looks like I finally will be able to attend this party, better late than never. Big Boy will arrive today after a teaser last Monday when I received notification my credit card was charged. Would have liked it for Christmas Day but right now I will be happy just to have it in hand without any issues.
Hey Matt any update with The rear marker lights?
-Pete
I tried to call lionel this am at 8:30 eastern time but said they were closed not sure if they are closed this week?
I guess the tender will have to be sent to lionel for repair. Does anyone know if I can just send tender as I definitely don't want to send engine to ris damage?
You opened the tender and didn't take pictures? LOL!
Sorry for your issues. I was really hoping it was the on/off key.
I will test it tonight or tomorrow when I get home.
Yes Matt, thats what I am told.......I am still unsure if I will sell my JLC 4014. Just feel if I sell it now I would not be getting the price I would like and giving it away. Besides to run them together would be awesome!
Hopefully, Lionel's idea to reprogram the engine will do the trick. It sounds like a good idea. Let us know after you try it!
Good Luck with it,
Pete
I got my UPS notice from CR a few hours ago. I will not see my 2 until Tuesday along with the DL-cabforward and a UP ES44AC. So I will celebrating Christmas a little late this year.
Mine made it here this morning along with some other items like the Menard's Locomotive Maintenance Shop, so it was like Christmas for me. But it is a great way to end the year.
I ran mine on Saturday and it performed beautifully. Everything works and it is my best engine. I just have to decide if I want to double head mine with the first Legacy Big Boy I bought when Legacy came out or should I sell it?
Thanks for mentioning the $10.00 rebate form. Helps take a little bit of the edge off of my $93.00 UPS 2nd Day (Blue Label) Delivery shipping fee. Although I can understand that no one wants to have their employees standing in line at the Post Office trying to mail packages, it would be nice if UPS shipments to Alaska weren't all Blue Label. The United States Post Office's Priority Mail delivers just as fast for half the price and for large shipments, they will even come to your place of business for pickup. The not-so-amusing part is after the package does get to Anchorage, it is not uncommon for the UPS employee to then take it over to the nearest Post Office and mail it the rest of the way to the smaller Alaskan towns.
On the other hand, you have to maintain a sense of proportion, shipping is less than 5% of the total cost of this locomotive and it is packed with incredible features. Consider how impressed everyone was with the 1989/1995 Williams releases that cost around $1300 and then compare it to this version.
