Been having some trouble upgrading my legacy base to 1.54 (couldn't find 1.6 on Lionel's site) The black module I used loads the upgrade just fine but when I perform the upgrade on the base I get 6 blinks of the yellow light. I've looked in the manual and one of the causes is a hardware issue, my legacy set is about 3 years old (not sure if that matters or not). I did the process on Lionel's video on the LSU system twice and got the same results as stated above. Any tips on what I'm doing wrong? I haven't even tried upgrading my remote yet.

Try a different module if you have one. We had a few bad ones at the Legacy meeting. They would take the software load but failed the update. Another module solved the issue.
You can find 1.6 on this page.
Thanks for the link. I just have one module but my uncle has two of them, I'll try one of his.
How many black modules do you need?
Free Black Modules for Legacy
My uncle ordered two by accident, I only have one. I'll have to try making my own.
I had this same problem with my base. Call Lionel they will service it. Mine was out of warrantee, but they fixed it and shipped it back at no cost. I think I paid the cost to get it to them.
The base works just fine. After the failed upgrade (twice) I ran trains for 4 hours and everything ran perfectly.
I'd download the upgrade file again and try it. Maybe you have a corrupt file.
I've attached the Legacy 1.60 upgrade files for your convenience, these were used to upgrade all my stuff.

Had a problem with my base not loading with the black module with 1.6. Kept trying and it just would not load. Then for the heck of it turned the charger switch on the bottom to charge (as it is normally off as I use throw away batteries) and it loaded right up. The base had been back to Lionel and had the charger update. Don't know what the charger had to do with the base not loading but it worked.
The same files I used to make modules for one LUG member worked and was tested. Then the other members modules wouldn't work for the base or handheld.
I suspect the module but that's interesting on the charger. Might be worth a try.
I'll have to try that. I have mine set to charge since I use the rechargeable batteries that came with my Legacy set. I'll try that and see if it works.
I had the same problem with my base, ended up having to send it to Lionel for repair. I talked to Lionel a couple of times, tried everything they said including using 2 different black modules, downloading new files, etc. Then a third black module was tried by the Lionel factory trained repair person at my LHS, didn't work for him either, then back it went.
Upon return the service ticket said they had to 'reset' something, but I don't recall what it was they reset? Their description of the repair was cryptic and didn't make much sense to me anyway.
Also, I had mine already set to charge as I use the rechargeable batteries that came with the 990 set.
