I first did this last year at the Big E show in January. Maybe the idea is not new, but whatever.

If you’re like me, you got stuff you don’t need or want but just don’t want to toss. Magazines, books, memorabilia, child type railroad or model train items, etc.

Take some of the stuff to the next show and give it away. I’d caution against giving anything to a child directly, give it to the parent instead.

I brought some small items with me and gave it away here and there. While at the show, I bought a box full of “stuff” just to be able to get the Lionel 110 trestle piers that were in it. After I bought the box, I sat down sorted out what I wanted, through away the real junk and gave the remainder to a dad and his son after I heard them looking and talking about stuff for their joint layout. They “paid” me in smiles and thank you’s.

For the past 11 months I’ve been collecting stuff in a box to give away at this year’s Big E show in Jan.

Give it a try sometime.

Yep, I see the instant two-fer.  Refreshing when others do too.

I once new a guy that would destroy anything he didn't want, just so no body would be able to benefit from it. He felt it might help others climb life's stairs easier than he had, somehow keeping him asending. (Insert Stairway to Heaven joke here)

I never understood....or missed him when he moved.

As a kid, those kind of surprise gifts were awesome.  For someone on a budget; it might be godsend.

One of the grandest experiences in life for me was delivering groceries to those in need after school as a teen, and later boxing the leftovers of the big downtown dinner for any homeless I might see, sometimes with an added side if it was skimpy. In fact, my last Mexican dinner some guy got 2 burritos and a side of beans and rice. (Skip the hot sauce, or buy them a drink too, eh?)

Anyhow, bravo Rich
