Hi Steve "Papa", I'm new here and see this is an old unfinished thread but I just got a Marx 666 smoker with a none working E-Unit. I did a search here and after reading several threads that confused me as far as what unit they were describing, I found this old thread and believe you may be describing what I need? Can you help or point me to where the documetary I need is on repairing my E-Unit? Thx, Jimi

Jimi, If you read the recent thread I replied in, and it wasn't clear enough I'm sorry.

If Poppa Steve doesn't pull a rabbit out of his hat for you. I was going to see what I could do about drawing a clearer diagram of one anyhow, seeing how the ones mentioned then, aren't to clear looking anymore.(as was stated)

It might take a few days, so I'll keep an eye, to see what shows here too.

Bearykleen and jimtone - I'm not familiar with the real old ones, but any from 1940 or so (definitely the 666) may respond to spraying a solvent such as tuner cleaner up into the moving parts of the reverse unit, then rocking the loco back and forth sharply on the track.  If you actually want to remove the reverse unit from the power unit, that entails removing the wheels and gears so you can remove one side of the motor housing.  I've never bothered.  If it goes forward, fine with me.  If it's sticky, I rock it.
