Thanks for sharing the pics, gentlemen.  I was curious what kind of rig would have come with it.  It seems pretty elaborate.  It looks like there’s a spooling system on one spindle but there is a second one as well.  It looks it might have had a drag line.

I bought some 1/16” threaded steel cable, a small pulley, and a hook to try to make it look more “authentic.”  I’m still playing around with it to try to get it the way I want it to look.

Not a good detail shot, I assume it's Marx but it looks somewhat different from the others shown above. I was working over some old train items for a friend some months ago.

I had, as a kid, the version "Ace" pictured, with that different crane house.

Actually it is very simple.  You have just a single crank handle for winding the thread on a single spindle.  The end opposite the crank has a simple ratchet.  The copper colored wire is just the catch for the ratchet.  When it drops down it keeps the hook at the set level.  Reach over and move the copper wire and the ratchet will let go..

Get a Robert Grossman catalog.  It has all manner of parts, things, and stuff for Marx.
