Any of the expert techs out there know why, when I cut the master volume down on one loco, when it's just a little below ear-splitting, it cuts off the sound completely? Cutting the individual items down to 10 from 100 makes the room livable.

Not sure what you are describing. Do you mean that the volume drops off suddenly and drastically with just a slight turn of the master pot?
Sweep the pot back and forth from one extreme to the other several times to clear off any possible dust/crud and see if that helps.
No. I'm talking about when running under DCS, and using the master volume on the remote. Pot doesn't affect sound when DCS is on, or shouldn't. Thanks anyway.
I think the Vol+ and Vol- "master" sound buttons have 5 "steps". What I would do is set all the volumes to 100% (listed under SOUND under the MENU button) then press the Vol+ button 5 times, that should put the sound at maximum. It'll be LOUD!!!
Then I would press the Vol- button twice to put the "master" sound at mid-range, then go back into MENU/SOUND and set everything to the level (0-100%) you want.
I have all mine set to mid-range ("master" Vol+/Vol- buttons) and the individual sounds set at 30%.
