Mayflower Set-Can someone tell me the names of the cars please

To my knowledge there was no Air Force car (as the Air Force did not exist in name [it was Army Air Corps originally] when the set was originally made), unless one of the companies that reproduced it, made up a car name.  The original American Flyer names used on the 19" cars are

Army-Navy, Annapolis, Academy, West Point for the President's Special / Mayflower sets

Hancock, Madison, Adams for the Flying Colonel / Legionnaire sets

Only add on cars I have seen was either a Sirus Varney or Richart true baggage car, similar to the lithographed version of the Presidential set baggage car, which had two baggage doors on each side and no passenger windows.  Not sure there was a specific name associated with this car.

The MTH Millenium gold plated version has the names of the train manufactures on them, they are J Lionel Cohen, Harry C Ives, Louis Marx, and AC Gilbert

I am assuming Annapolis is in the chrome Mayflower set. In the Lionel Classics version or the MTH version?  I have seen Annapolis in the blue flyer Presidential set but not seen a chrome Annapolis or the Sirus and Rich Art baggage. Would like to acquire both if you can provide some leads. Much thanks. 

I am not sure that Annapolis appears in the reproduction Mayflower sets.  It certainly may appear in some of the originals, as American Flyer seemed to mix plates in later years, as they ran out of the differing plates.  

American Flyer also used up the leftover name plates on small O gauge tenders.

The 19" baggage car is impressive, but is somewhat rare.  I think it may be a Richart car, but do not recall.   I have seen chrome versions of the baggage, as well as painted versions. 

To my knowledge, the baggage car is the only add-on car.  The only other way to add cars is to buy singles from people who have split sets up, or those who acquired extra's from MTH.  

Once again, your knowledge is profound. And thanks. I posted my wish-buy list on this forum as well as to buy section. Perhaps your network can be tapped to source some of the standard gauge sets like the Black Diamond/Chief, Legionnaire/Warrior/Pocahontas and the Flying Colonel.

To be honest, I do not collect standard gauge.  I have a couple of sets including the MTH Millenium Mayflower.  My primary focus is American Flyer O gauge.  That being said, I am familiar with Flyer standard gauge.  As for the sets you are interested in, the Pocahontas and Warrior sets should be relatively easy to find as either originals or reproductions.  If you are looking for reproductions (MTH, Sirus Varney, Richart), the rest of the sets are attainable, just watch the auction houses/ebay/or go to York.  Originals of those sets are tougher to find and more pricey.  

One note for you, don't try to mix and match cars from Richart and Sirus Varney.  Although the cars may look the same from a distance, it is my understanding that the paint colors vary slightly, so that side-by-side these cars look different enough and do not match well due to the variations in paint color.

Great advice. ill be on the lookout. I recently came upon MTH 's reproduction of Ives standard gauge National Limited in blue body and red roofs. The 400 series cars were what I thought were the set but there is apparently the exact same colors in the 200 series. How? 

Not sure if you looked through the weekend photos, but someone posted a picture of the Richart or Sirus Varney odd baggage car in blue.  At least you can get an idea of what one looks like.

Ash, the Ives 200 series cars are actually Lionel series  400 cars... but have Ives Paint, truck Couplers etc.

Only yo can sort this out. You sorted out the national Limited 200 and 400 are basically the same. Yet MTH has on their product locator two National Limited sets 10-5100 at $899 and 10-1144 for $599. Why the massive price difference if they are essentially the same and look the same and same size. Thanks and Regards.

The difference is the date the sets were offered.  10-1144 was offered in 2001. 10-5100 was offered 13 years later in 2014. During this time China went through major labor increases.
