I almost forgot today is Wednesday, and that it is Midweek Photo time. I spent two days in Maine during MLK Jr. weekend, and here are some of my pics from day 2, Sunday, January 19. A four-five inch snowfall from Saturday to Sunday meant a slight delay in the start-up of the day, while things were getting ready. The parking lot at the Wiscasset, Waterville, & Farmington Ry was being cleared, and it took a while for the other guests to arrive. This allowed some of us early arrivers a chance to get creative.
Manson no. 4 has not run in a few years, but by strategic placement, I got some steam and smoke look like it's coming out of the stack. Of course, a hot engine would not have so much snow on it's boiler.
WW&F no. 9 and Bridgeton & Saco River no. 7 steam it up for me before most of the other fans arrived.
The locos all needed water and to be turned, so the turntable was quite the attraction. The table was not used to turn the engines all the way around on this day, but more to get from one part of the yard to the other.
A hand powered table, and the operators in authentic Maine gear. What a show.
This is a little conference before the double headed train was to head out of Alna for the photo locations.
No. 9 is being checked in the yard, off the main line. She would head up solo about 10 minutes behind the other train.
This is the little depot at Alna Center, about a mile away from the yard at Alna. 9 is pushing North for various runby action and staged images for later in the day. I had to head for home after this scene, so I hope you enjoyed my Winter steam weekend. It was a great time.
As always, feel free to add any photos you would like to the thread. We like all types of train photos, so anything you can share is appreciated.
