Happy Veteran's Day to all who are celebrating. I am not certain if this is a holiday worldwide, but the end of the Great War in 1918 was a relief to the entire world at the time.
I decided to highlight a few photos this week that pertain to the military and/or veterans.
Here is the Amtrak 642 City Sprinter locomotive dedicated to saluting our Veterans. This was a display at Steamtown in Scranton. They also have a diesel version of this unit, number 42.
Here she is in service, Newark, DE.
Jumping back a bit in time, Steamtown holds it annual commemoration of the military - railroad connection on Memorial Day weekend. A troop train runs to Jessup, PA. We see the train here ready to board. About 25 military re-enactors, and quite a few veterans took the train.
The military tributes date back to the mid 1990s, and these photos are from 2009's RailFest.
We also pay tribute at times to the Civil War. In October, 2014, an excursion to East Stroudsburg and a stop in Tobyhanna featured Abraham Lincoln, the Pennsylvania Civil War Military band and several people dressed as Civil War generals.
And a couple photos honoring the real heroes of the Civil War. The Andrews Raiders memorial at this cemetery in Chattanooga, TN. I took these in 2007.
What do you think? Have you some military tributes in your catalog of railroad photos? If so, please share them here.
Enjoy your week. And all the weeks ahead.
