Happy Wednesday, and, as part of the holiday season, Happy Saint Nicholas Day!
This Turkish bishop is known for his generosity. He is symbolized by 3 apples. The legend has it that a poor man was praying to keep his 3 daughters from becoming prostitutes to help out the family. Nicholas may have heard this prayer and threw three gold nuggets (apples) in the window to help out the poor man and girls. December 6 is his feast day, and in some parts of Europe is the equivalent of Christmas in the Western World.
Have I got a gift for you? Absolutely, in the form of train photos. Come along for a ride.
On Saturday, November 25, Steamtown National Historic Site makes another run to Moscow, PA to meet up with Santa Claus. F3 no. 663 pushes the train through the yard to reach the track that leads to the boarding platform. The passenger train passes static freight train, led by Reading Company RS3 no. 467.
Here comes the train, rolling in to pick up the passengers.
The F3 ran with Delaware Lackawanna RR no. 1554, which is painted in her original Central RR of New Jersey stripes.
After arriving at Santa's Station, this happy family posed at the last coach in the train.
Santa Claus gets the secret wish of this young man. Santa's throne is in the Reindeer Barn.
One of the elves helps to coordinate this Christmas chain. Each ring represents a day in December to countdown to Christmas.
Also in the reindeer barn is this HO train layout. An O gauge layout is in the passenger station.
This elf is Jacob, an N scale hobbyist. He is comparing his trains to the giant HO scale.
This lady lives in Olyphant, PA. She told me of her childhood during World War II, and how she hardly ever slept, because she was afraid the Germans would capture her family.
The train performs the run-around near the reindeer barn.
The next day, I caught the Holiday Express leaving the Hill Section of Scranton, about to head into the wilderness.
Off they go! Another weekend of excursions underway. That is my contribution for now. If you have any photos, please contribute to the effort. We appreciate anything you have to share. See you next week.
