Happy Wednesday, everyone. Welcome once again to a new edition of Midweek Photos. The 2017 excursion train season began at the Strasburg Rail Road last weekend, and some other railroads ran trips for the President's Day weekend, only to close up again until Easter or so.
I was not so lucky to catch the trains in motion, but I do have a video of the January 31 snowfall, and some stills of a President's Day weekend from 21 years ago.
Back in 1996, Scranton, PA became the center of steam action for 5 days. Two of those days were excursions to Tobyhanna for ice harvesting on Mill Pond No. 1. Milwaukee Road 4-8-4 no. 261 handled the east bound trips and run-bys, and Canadian Pacific 4-6-2 no. 2317 handle the return. No run-bys that I can recall.
Early in the day, the crowds cluster around No. 261. In the cab, there was a marriage taking place. All of these photos were on February 18, 1996.
The first run-by at the Nay Aug Tunnel.
Backing up for a run-by in Elmhurst, PA at the dam.
Final photo run-by in Tobyhanna after arrival at the station. There was also a photo stop in Moscow that I only watched.
Some of the work being done on the ice in collecting the ice for use in the summer months. At one time, daily trainloads of ice ran to Newark and New York City to keep iceboxes chilled.
Shortly before re-boarding, 261 passes 2317 with her train consisting of only business car 403 from the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad.
That is my contribution. Any photos of steam, snow or any other trains are appreciated. Thank you again for your sharing.
