Happy April, everyone. In the past weekend, we have celebrated Easter, the beginning of Passover, the 42nd anniversary of Contail beginning, and April Fools Day. I hope everyone celebrated in an appropriate fashion ... especially the April Fools part.
Anyway, I did get a few shots trackside in Scranton this past week. Here we go:
On Friday, I caught the Delaware Lackawanna RR running on what is now called the Strawberry Hill connector. In the steam years, the Delaware lackawanna and Western RR called it the Diamond Branch, leading to the Diamond Breaker, which is a col processing plant about 6 blocks away. RS32 no 211 was leading 3 RS3s on the line, which is now on the south side of the Scranton bus station.
A bit of brake smoke emits from one of the RS3s, which was once a Delaware & Hudson unit numbered 4118.
The Delaware-Lackawanna is so busy these days that they need to switch out cars wherever they can. On Friday, the only place left was the area where the tracks cross Lackawanna Ave at the juncture of the bus station, the Mall at Steamtown and a PA state office building. Not only was it vehicle traffic, but people coming out of work at the same time. This switching lasted for about 20 minutes.
Here is a view of how it sort of upset people in the back and forth moves over this busy street.
And a cool angle on the leader of this pack: no. 211. I think this was built for New York Central, and it came to Scranton over a decade ago from the Tishomingo Railroad in Mississippi.
That is what I have to offer this week. What did you capture trackside lately? Now that the weather is getting milder, you might feel the need to head out with your camera more often . If you do, share what you find with us.
