I am running this set for the first time,it is a conventional set.  There is no bell or whistle,or so it seems.

Am I missing something here?  Any help on this would be appreciated.  I have not run a train without sound and CC since I was a young guy with my PW stuff.

If it's spinning wheels, you are probably using STD42 curves. Try STD72 and add more straights. Also, try lubricating the wheels for the engine trucks, passenger car trucks, and pickup rollers. There is too much resistance for the motor wheels. Those are long cars and a long engine and will have a lot of resistance on the curves.

Most standard gauge runs best on 072 or greater even though they were designed ORIGINALLY for 042. What in the blazes are "auto couplers"; a coupler IS a coupler whether manual or "auto"! (WINK)

I used to think auto couplers were for automobile transport freight cars. Why would they be on tinplate? Aliens... Time travel...

Don't give up yet! The engine needs to be broken- in. Oil like the instructions say if you haven't yet..I use synthetic. I use synthetic on the car wheels too. Run the engine by itself for a while both directions. Check the oiling points again. Try it with a couple cars for a while the same way. The engine will probably do better with just 3 cars. If you add some weight to the engine the 4th car will be easier to pull. Make sure the engine wheels and track are nice and clean for best traction. I have an o-gauge MTH Blue  Comet that took some considerable time before if ran well. A set like yours needs to run so it can be enjoyed!
