First B unit to be modified by dropping the shell around the chassis. You can see it has been lowered to prototype height in comparison to an unmodified b unit.
This unit required a lot of cutting and body modifications, but I think I can do the rest including A units by modifying the truck mounting plates and the truck trunions.
I'll due a tutorial when I do it. I'm going to tackle my Alcos first.

That is one thing a wanted to do when I made my modifications but I saw many problems and decided it was not worth the risk.
Yeah I want to see that too. The F7's are even higher than the F3's so they will be lots of work. I modified an E7 and had to cut the shell tabs and modify the frame/chassis.
What about the steps? I see you removed them from the trucks, will you body mount them now?
What is the minimum radius that these can handle once lowered?

I couldn't get the video to post. Click on the link. Joe Wallace is the only guy that has ever lowered a Lionel "high water" unit mechanically. He also invented a remote control Kadee coupler for O.

Howard, I was not aware of Joe Wallace. do you know3 the mods for the Kadee auto uncoupler. I assume he is using part of a lionel coupler coil to actuate. That was sweet.
Laid off sick, I will mount the door steps, but will order some end steps to modify and attach to the body.
Central fan, I have no idea on the minimum radius as I run 0/120 to O/144 curves. They still seem to have a pretty good range of motion. One would have to retain the truck mounted steps.
Today I started a pattern for the Alco pilots.
Very interesting project with nice results. Way over my head.
