Just received an email notification from FedEx, shipment coming from Lionel Customer Service, due to arrive this Thursday. The only item I have out with Lionel is the Legacy Mogul. Will advise.

Yay! I hope it meets your expectations!!

As far as expectations go, all I'm hoping for is that it runs, smoke comes out of the stack, bell rings and whistle toots.
My Mogul was shipped out as well and returned today.
It works as well as I had hoped! Smooth slow running. It is a very nice locomotive.
Now that Lionel has fixed the issue it had I think they should do another run of moguls. I would buy another.
Thank you to Dave and crew for making the repair happen. Yes, it took time but I am glad I did not return it.

So glad to here it. Can’t wait to try mine.

Was the engine or the packaging marked in a special way to indicate that yours was a repaired unit?
Ran mine today for 30 minutes with 12 box cars in tow. No problems, runs fine. They did forget to return the manual, not available on Lionel website, called, said they would email me one when they get one forwarded from engineering.

Did not see any special markings indicating a repair was done.
Can you post a video of your engine running?
And to future commenters on this thread, please don’t turn this into another QC thread. I’ve had enough of them, and I’m sure many fellow forumites can relate.
I’ll have mine tomorrow. After the Amherst show I’ll do a unveiling video. Stay tuned.
Mine returned this morning . The videos show running on a friends layout running with a TMCC set. Will try in Legacy later.
Can someone please direct me to the original thread where the Issues with the Mogul were first reported. I have a customer who recently purchased one. I would like to show this to him so he can decide what route he would like to take. I did find that there was a gear problem and some mention about a traction tire issue but could not find out what the issue was. He bought his and it came without tires. Taking the drivers out I found that 4 of the 6 axle springs were missing. Didn't get to run it other than on a test track so not sure about the jerking issue. Please don't turn this into another bash. Just looking for information so we can decide how to proceed.
Thank You, Forest.
They came with axle springs only on the rear axle. Front and center axles have no springs. Check for play in the side rod on the front wheels. Excessive play may indicate missing bushings. The rods at the rear drivers need no bushings as the rods fit the shouldered screws directly.

That's interesting about the springs. I'm not sure I understand the use of springs only on the rear drivers. Again Interesting. Everything else seems ok. Will have to get it on layout and give it a shake down.

And all the crews are in?

Do you have to wonder why?

Well actually, the engineer was loose and rolling around in the styrofoam. That I could handle, grabbed him by the head with tweezers, glue on his rear end and put him back where he belongs.
The Boston and Maine Mogul arrived from Lionel on Saturday. Hereshe is running .
I still haven't got an notice about mine shipping back yet.

I always fear about that, so I never include anything loose when I send things back for repair. My manual is sitting on the corner of the layout.
Wheres Superwarp/Gary? He was the original beta tester for these. I hope his turned out O.K.
Wondering just what the repair entailed ?

Still haven’t gotten mine back yet. I’m doing an unboxing video when I do. So stay tune for tears of joy or fire works of @#$
as for what the factory did, Lionel doesn’t know. So what does that say about the disconnect between factory and Lionel?
It's back and as you can see in the video, the results are less than perfect. All the same symptoms are still there plus a motor whine which wasn't there before, and to top it off my engine now has an identity crises, it thinks it's a Santa Fe engine. What happened to my Rutland sounds????:rippedhand:
On one note after putting it into warp speed the motor sounds are have lessen but the jerkiness is still there. I removed the bottom plate to see if there's any lube, added some and noticed the axle gear is not centered. Would it help to center it? Who knows but I think I've had enough.
Wonder if anyone at Lionel actually tested these models prior to returning them to customers?
That's just terrible Gary. Get your money back.
How many MTH locomotives have you had that went back to China for warranty repairs?
That sure puts a "buzz kill " on the new catalog.
Oh my god Gary....I can’t believe what I’m seeing.....I was vomiting for you guys.......Pat
Wow! How does something go back to the factory for a “fix” and come back with even more issues? Get your refund, buy a nice MTH engine, and don’t turn back.
Hot Water posted:Wonder if anyone at Lionel actually tested these models prior to returning them to customers?
If the amount of returned engines for warranty repair was as low as they said it was, you’d think they would have tested them before sending them off...I’m still in awe......Pat
Is the whine sound the smoke unit fan? Can't believe it returned with broken pieces, oh wait, yes I can. Totally unacceptable. Way to go Lionel.
Whine is not from the smoke unit. What’s got me is why would they mess with the tender and change the sounds? Makes no sense, to me
That must be frustrating. If it were me, before returning it I would lube it up and let it run at higher speed for an hour or so. It is a long shot, but perhaps the noise will diminish once well broken in.
Gary's video is exactly why I left the O Gauge Hobby...
No quality control from anyone at Lionel and no ownership towards their defective product. You pay on average $1000 per locomotive and you get that junk. I sent my PRR E6 460 back 3 times and they still couldn't get the darn thing right for once. Ridiculous. I'll gladly stick to enjoying and shooting the 1:1 scale.

Perfectly said...Really got excited to see LIRR C420s...until I see this stuff...just too many instances of bad quality and service.

Very sorry for you guys. Broke (expensive) toys suck. Sending it off to be fixed and it returning not so fixed is even suckier.
Andre
Oh Gary... I am so sorry you're still going through this. Totally unacceptable. Wonder what Ryan's reaction will be?!

Just got off the phone with Lionel. I don't get a refund as in cash in my hand. I'll get store credit of equal amount. Makes me wonder if I even want to bother??
They provided a defective item to you. Tried to fix it and failed. And now you have to take a store credit? And to what store? Their online store, or the store you purchased it from? They failed to deliver a workable product and you have to settle for something other than you wanted?? Seems like BS if thats the case...
Gary (SUPERWARP1),
Sorry to see that this didn't work out for you after such a long wait. I liked the video and your Rutland milk train. By the way, 1397 is the road number on the Lionel Legacy B&M Mogul.

First off, thanks for showing the entire process from opening the box to the final results; and kudos to your son for his contribution!
Seems there should be some sort of "lemon law" in play here; I know that if you can make a reasonable case when it comes to a new car, the state will side with you and you can get a full refund. Some friends bought a brand new Jeep that had reoccurring issues and eventually got that refund. I don't think you should be "forced" to purchase another product from the same manufacturer simply because they won't offer a full refund on a less than "perfect" brand new item.
Best of luck with this; who knows, maybe after a break in period it will be better...nice layout, BTW.

I'm shocked that those who say none of these Lionel quality issues are true haven't posted anything.
