Andre,(lamin) asked about seeing some of the blue & gray Missouri Pacific power on track.

I have bought a number of new and used units, MTH F3's and recently picked up a pair of GP9's, also a Williams BL2. Putting them side by side today, I was wondering if the Williams BL2 is scale. I kind of always thought it was. It is a noticable length longer than an F3. It has been boxed for awhile, but ran perfect back on the rails. I can see that this will be a project loco as I need to slow it down and will wire the motors in series. Also, the headlight is pretty dim and will replace with LED's and some constant voltage protection for them.

Another of my future Mopac chores is to paint the shell on an MTH VO 1000 into basic Mopac black. I do have the decals for this. I picked up a shell of ebay awhile back for the replacement of an on-hand VO 1000.

I have a chance to pick up a MTH PA set with a streamlined Eagle, but at this point, just don't think I can use them on the layout. They are beautiful!

I may one day get the MTH MP FT, but there is seldom a scale MP diesel for sale on the secondary market. (the Lionel GP7 is very common, but it is also on my roster)

In the future, I'd like to see MTH or Willians to make a Mopac F7 or Texas&Pacific or KO&G, (all the same scheme), or an Alco FA, the MP had a ton of them. Tops would be a Babay Face Baldwin diesel. I try and limit Atlas diesels to non-powered units as I don't have TMCC and can't justify the price with the electronics.

Absolutely!  I have always wondered why there are so few  MOPAC / T&P / KO&G  locomotives and rolling stock made by the major manufacturers.  Well, with the exception of the Eagle Merchandise Service Boxcars and ART reefers... there are a ton of those out there.

Nice find with the MTH PA/PB set.  I have looked for one of these for a long time.

I keep hoping that MTH will get back around to showing some love for us MOPAC guys.  I would love to see some T&P stuff in Eagle colors.

Outside of the Lionel Archive set, I didn't know of anything else done for the KO&G.  I was surprised to see the hoppers in your photos.  May I ask who made these?

Todd,

the hoppers are ones I repainted. Back when Odd Balls made decals, they were very good and a lot on the Missouri Pacific Lines, MP, T&P, KO&G.

Like others, I have a small order with him that has languished and I wrote off.

Anyway, like you said, there are not a lot of MP specific lettered cars, so I made my own. The KO&G coal car was a Intermountain kit lettered MP that I removed, (I got a maybe 10 kits, and built 7 or so).

The Atlas air slide started out as a B&O I picked up off the Forum, again removed the lettering before repaint and decals. MTH and Atlas rounded covered hoppers, for a 60's MP scheme, an old undecorated All Nation box car for the KO&G. Weaver AC-2 covered hopper was N&W now MP.

Weaver has made a number of MP and T&P boxcars in basic brown schemes that I have still boxed up.

One of my future projects is to take an MTH GP7 shell and paint it for the KO&G.

Sorry about the double photos, that short rounded covered hopper is a Lionel repaint, not MTH.

As can be seen in the background is a MP coal train, mostly Intermountain kit cars, but also an MTH Eagle coal hopper that they also came out with in 6 packs I believe two different times.  I have a six pack of the Eagle coal hoppers made by Weaver box up, as well as a pair of Weaver outside braced coal hoppers.

Dan, NICE!  Very nice!  You did a fantastic job on all of these!

A lack or scarcity of decals has prevented me from doing any repaints.  It seems to me that most of the MOPAC decals that can be found for O-Gauge/Scale  are for the Merchandise Service boxcars or for the later Jenks era diesels.  The lack of Buzzsaw 50's to 60's era sets is disappointing.

Heck, where are the MP flat cars and gondola's???  I'm currently working on preparing some scale drawings from photos for the MP demountable containers.  My plan is to scratch build about a half dozen of these.  What I need for these containers is flats and gondolas.  Outside of a Peterson Supply custom run Crown gondola... I have not been able to find any.  Half way reasonable flats are non-existent.

I agree with you Boomer... it is HIGH time that MTH re-runs their earlier premier offerings.  Most of these have not been available for 5 to 10 years.

Love y'alls MoPac pics! I grew up seeing the MoPac and MKT here in Austin around the time of the merger with UP. So MP in 80's is what I model. I have the MTH SD40-2's, U30C's, and the canary SD50's. I also have the Atlas GP35's, a GP15, a U23 and their canary SD40's. Atlas did a custom run of the wide vision MP caboose and I have both road numbers as well as their long bay window caboose. I have a Overland Brass shorty bay window as well. I paid way too much for the MTH steel Mopac caboose. I also have a nice size fleet of 80's era freight cars from various manufacturers.

Diesel dan, where did you find the jeep 9's are they mth? I looked at them back in the day and wished I would have gotten them when they came out. They are very hard to find. I luckily was able to get the mopac lionel mikado and I just love it. I too wish mth would reissue thier mopac offering again especially the geeps and sd 40's.I would jump on them in a heart beat. Even faster if lionel would make the with legacy!!
