Got the intermodal bug from the forum, plus support from some of the key contributors to the 17+ pages of posts on the subject; where, the answer to my question may be buried. I picked up a K-Line spine car set with trailers. and the box includes what are described as container supports. But cannot figure out how they work with my MTH containers. What am I missing? Do the K-line containers mount differently? Confused

MTH and K Line containers are different. MTH containers have pins cast into the container bottom. Those pins insert in holes on MTH spine cars or in the top of other MTH containers if stacking them in well cars.

K Line containers have holes cast in the bottom rather than pins. I don't have the spine cars, but think they have a pin cast into the mounting platform on the car to hold the container. To stack K Line containers, you use the separate mounting pins (which I what I think you are referring to) between the containers. (By the way, if you lose them, the shafts from Q-tips make an excellent substitute -- just cut to length).

Good advice from Rich here. I managed to lose most of my K-Line mating pins over the years. They are white plastic and as Rich states, the Q-Tip option works well.

Mixing and matching manufactures containers can be done, it just takes a little creativity and sometimes "surgery". I have shaved off pieces from the bottom of Weaver containers with a dremel, widened holes on top of MTH containers, used stick poster gum, etc.

Good luck,
Mike

K-line containers imitate the Real 1:1 operations where the mounting holes are at the corners. MTH/Weaver models use their own inset mounts that do not conform to others except thier own equipement.
