Does anybody have any suggestions on Motels to stay at, or to avoid in the York area during the show?
I have worked down in this area a few years ago and some nights finding a place to stay was interesting.
Thanks in advance!!!

There are more motels in the area than there were a few years ago, but I would
start checking chains NOW, and getting reserved!
Avoid the Rodeway, it's easily the worst motel in the US.

You do get what you pay for in most cases.
Never been to York, don't know anything about one there, but every Holiday Inn Express I have stayed at here in the Midwest was very nice and comfortable. Might be worth checking to see if they have one and what it's like.
How much do you want to spend on a hotel or motel? and how many days are you staying? I may be able to help you. I have only been going to York for almost 40 years.
I fully agree with you Dave, and the Motel 6 is the next worst.
Our favorite is the Sheraton Four Points. It's right behind the Round The Clock Diner and about 10 minutes to the York Fairgrounds. My wife and I have been staying there during the York Meet for years.

Yes, but Scrappy's a cheapskate, and he put us in there. Atrocious.
Some of you put posts on the forum and you try to help them, and they never come back on.
It's been just 23 hours and he needs a day to think it over.
Me, I'm going to stay in a van, down by the river.
I've got a room at the Courtyard Marriott, a new hotel. $150 a night. Good price.
I've found the reviews on Trip Advisor to be fairly reliable, both in York and elsewhere. Many of the moderately-priced chains have slipped in recent years; prepare to be disappointed. You can save substantial money by staying in Lancaster or Carlisle (but not this time due to car show).

In my experience, those have always been very decent places to stay. You should be pleased with it.
$150. that is stupid. I am paying $149. How about a call Allan? You do know telephones were invented.

Not sure what your ****y attitude is about but it seems pretty typical of you Eddie. You do know not being an ******* helps as well?
I don't stay in fleabag motels. If there was a Ritz in York, I'd be there.
Eddie doesn't mean any harm, just likes to "buck" the trend.

I don't know what you guys are thinking. I'm not bucking anything. I'm kidding about the $150. I'm waiting for a call from Allan.

Hello Eddie, I apologize for posting this question and then never returning.
We are putting in some long days at work and looking at the computer was the last thing on my mind when I got home at night.
**** economy!!!!
I guess I should have written the question differently.
Being that this TCA show has been in this same location for several years I was wondering if the was any of the motels that seemed to cater to the TCA with special rates or anything like that.
I always like to support a business that helps with different events similar to this TCA event.
My wife and I will most likely stay at a Holiday Inn Express or a Hampton Inn.
Cost is always an issue but I want something clean and quiet and sometimes this costs a bit more but is worth it.
Thanks for all the replies!!!!

To the best on my knowledge, none of the area hotels offer special package rates for individuals attending the York Meet. Some do make special arrangements for recurring groups such as our OGR staff group (half a dozen rooms or so) and others.
Fortunately, there now are a number of new hotels in the area to choose from, which makes finding a room at a late date a good bit easier.
There's always the back seat and a sleeping bag!
I'll second traindiesel's suggestion of the Four Points. My wife and I have been staying there for the past 6 or 7 York's. This year they have a TCA show special of $135 per night. About a 2 minute walk to the Round O Clock diner.
Round the Clock Diner, what's that?
Thanks for all the suggestion everyone.
I will check out the Sheraton Four Points.
This will be tomorrows project.
Thanks again!!!!
The choices for lodging for those attending the Eastern Division show at York are numerous. I would venture to say that the majority of attendees stay in York but a good percentage stay in Lancaster, PA ( about a 35 minute drive to the East)where some attendees like ourselves appreciate the strong Amish culture, the vast shopping malls and the local cuisine . We have stayed at the Wyndham Suites, Mainstay Suites and a number of B & B's there. Like at York, decent accommodations start at about $100 per night and go to about $180. To my knowledge neither York or Lancaster feature any true 4 star luxury accommodations. The best that we have been able to find are 3 star hotels that are still very comfortable but not luxurious.
If you consider Lancaster do an online search and see for yourself.
I would also suggest the Holiday Inn & conference center. It is very nice, and the closest to the fairgrounds, (less than 2 miles) & it is also where the best outdoor show is Mon, Tues & Wed. I believe there are still some rooms available.
I use the Hampton Inn in Hanover. While a 20 minute drive from the fairgrounds, it is a reliable hotel.
Sorry, I forgot, Barry is always right.
Eddie,
Sorry, I forgot, Barry is always right.
No, not always, just more often than not.
However, this time - yes, as of this past Friday.
As mentioned the Spring Carlisle Auto meet is the same dates as York ED TCA. Approximately 100,000 people attend the Carlisle meet. Many of them need a motel room. Better be booking now. If you have problems finding a room close to York then consider moving North about 21 min./25 miles just up I-83. Easy trip to York Fairgrounds. Search for motels in New Cumberland, PA. Most that show up will be at the crossroads of I-83 and I-76 ( the PA Turnpike). (Limekiln Rd.) Several decent restaurants in the area as well. FWIW.
Round the Clock Diner, what's that?
Last time I was there the clock didn't work, and Eddie was there.
Looking forward to this York and meeting those of you that I didn't get to see last time. Also looking forward to seeing those that I got to meet last time!! The OGR crew will be staying at the Wyndgate in York...
Alan
Worth checking out if you're still looking for an inexpensive place to stay, a couple of newer places on hotels.com:
TownePlace Suites
Hampton Inn & Suites
And for a little more cash:
Homewood Suites
Courtyard by Marriott
Thanks Farmer Bill, got a pretty good deal at the Sheraton Four Points.
Thanks again!!!!
Senility has dawned on me...I was going to recommend Plasticville until I realized it was about York.
I have stayed at both the York Rodeway Inn and Super8 motels, and continue to do so. This meet I'm staying at the Rodeway on George St.. Senior rate $71.99 + tax, free internet and simple breakfast. Both are fine for sleeping, a price near $80., and are less than 2 miles from the fairgrounds. If you are having your "other" staying with you, get something more "upscale". Just don't kid yourself that a place outside of York will be ONLY X minutes away, unless you are driving at 2am.
BTW, I've stayed at a number of 4 and 5-star hotels around the world.
One of my favorite Hampton Inns in Euphrata My wife loves this place too. If you stay in the back side of the hotel you have a great view of the city. I am paying 149. John
We booked a place at Hampton Inn South York. A bit closer than I would like but my wife did not take to my suggestion of staying in a van down by the river!
