Motorized units window strut savers

Hard for me to tell. This goes inside the cab, or sits on the outside while handling the unit? If it’s inside, does the motor need at least some open window ventilation to keep cool while running?

Fits inside, front and back windows are left open for ventilation.  The second picture above has it installed.  Full details will be on the 3D print catalog  when uploaded.   There is a version for the Vulcan's and one for the Gas Turbines.  Installed in my 51, 56, 58  and 41.

Good idea, I've seen a ton of these with broken window struts.

A clear plastic insert would work as well, wouldn't it? That would avoid the blacked-out windows. Or even possibly a clear plastic I-beam, with the ends about 3/8 wide, that would fit crosswise in the cab with the ends against the struts, which would be very unobtrusive, leave the windows open, and still provide rigid support for the struts.

This is a picture of it printed with clear filament, 100% on the walls, no gaps.  It is semi opaque.

I use FBM.  It takes a lot of work and post process chemical work to get clear parts.   Printing something clear is still an artform.  If someone made clear filament that would print clear without  post processing and ironing while printing you could sell a lot of it.    SLA may be better, but I don't have SLA.   

Files are available in the catalog.  There are .stp files included for those that want to modify and make their own version.

In the notes I suggested that you can paste on interior pictures.  A  clear print with interior light may be good for a back lit picture.    I am on the look out for pictures that could work.

The interior is effectively blacked out without any lighting.  The black out look doesn't bother me, I don't notice it until I look for it.

Cool, thanks for posting that!  I tried printing in PETG clear, and I got some sort of transparent lenses, but certainly not clear.  I have no idea how you'd ever get truly clear with FDM printing, I've seen better results with SLA, but that's a horse of a different color.
