Purchased a few MTH 50-1024 2.4 volt batteries for installation in a some of my 9 - 10 year old PS2.0 -  3 volt engines.

Have a few questions.

1)  Do these batteries need to be charged prior to running the engine?

2)  MTH website says they were issued in 2005.  These batteries have no date stamps, any known issues with these being DOA due to the possibility of sitting on a shelf for 10 years?

3)  Opened up my Premier 0-4-0 surprised to find I need a AAA 2.4 volt battery.   MTH website has them ($12) but has no product ID number.   What is a good reasonably priced source for these batteries?

Thanks,

Paul

Good idea to replace them after that long. Probably wouldn't hurt to charge them a little while before using just to be on the safe side.

I am reasonably sure the 2005 date was when they were first released and they have replenished the stock many times since then. My LHS has been out of these and had to re-order many times. I would say the chances of getting one from 2005 are pretty slim.

Not sure about #3? Maybe others will be along with more info.

Hi All,

Just discovered that my MTH Amtrak F59PH with PS 2.0 has one of these batteries which is likely dead. I want to change it out with a new BCR-2 from J&W Electronics but am not sure how to disconnect the wires from the tight connector, a small rectangular box. Please advise on best way to disconnect! Thanks!
