I just got one of these and I can't get the smoke unit cover off to re-fill the .

The instructions say the cover is held in place with magnets and I've tried to gently lift it off and squeeze the sides but it won't move.

I don't want to damage the shell or cover by by using a tool to lever it off - can anyone tell me if there is a trick to this?

First, you refill the smoke unit by just putting smoke fluid down the smoke stack. There's nothing to remove to fill up the smoke unit. The manual states to remove the cover to access controls, not to add smoke fluid.

Second, the manual also shows that the same controls that are supposedly under this cover, are actually on the engine chassis itself. Look at pages 4, 5, 6, 8, and 17. On page 17 you'll also see a picture of the engine with the cab removed. From that, it's clear that there are no controls around the smoke unit, as well as no door.

The magnetic door is a typo.

Thanks Barry,

The reason I want to open the cover is that, because there is a 'mesh' at the top of the stack (I assume the proototypes had this to prevent birds, leaves and other debris from entering the exhaust system), a fair proportion of the smoke fluid ends up on the shell and I'd prefer to get all the fluid to where it belongs. I guess I'll have to use a 'needle' applicator.
