Error message out of range
Hi can anyone help me. I just purchase a MTH 50-1001, DCS Remote Control Set with TIU Unit, Rev L version and I am getting error message Out of Range. My layout is 8 by 16 ½. I am using MTH real track. I cleaned my track and I am still getting out of range.

i just went through this with mine.after checking the antenna inside,i looked at the battery case. are your battries new? sounds dumb, but the hand held needs full power to work right. mine had some corrosion build up in the battery box,cleaning it helped.i also done a reset on the remote .its finally starting to add engines,and work as it should.-jim
Connect a curly telephone handset cable between the base of the remote and the TIU's Remote Input port. Post if things improve and we can go from there.

Barry mine is doing the same thing with the out of range. With some help I noticed the Tiu flashes the light twice, but the address in my remote is set to 1. Tried using phone cord It always comes up in 1. I reset the remote and TIU. Also reloaded Rev Ver 5.0 (I have rev L). I can't add any engines.
At one point I set the Tiu to address 2. Then I could at least read the revision but cant do anything else.
I'm thinking about trying to set everything back to rev 4.xx. I've got a bad feeling my TIU took a dirt nap.
I had a similar issue.
I opened the case and found that the receiver chip was not in the socket all the way! I pushed it all the way in, and solved my issue!

Add the TIU as Address 2 or change it to address 1. G
