Hello,

I am a big fan of the ATSF 2900 and 5011 class.  I have a few of the Proto 1 MTH Premier versions of the 2900 class released in 1995, which I was able to pick up through the years at great prices due to their age and pre command control electronics.

I am fully aware of the light years of innovation going from 1995 Proto 1 to 2016 Proto 3.  But with electronics aside, will this basically be the same engine as it was 21 years ago?  Will MTH be using a new mold or tooling?  So again with electronics aside, both engines on the workbench with boilers off, are there any significant upgrades or differences in construction since 1995.

This being one of my favorite engines I definitely want to order the 2016 version.  What I want to avoid is ordering the Proto 3 version of what I already have because I could upgrade 3 of the 1995's to Proto 3 with cash to spare.

Thanks Everyone

Do I not know that it will be physically the same loco as the 1995 (I have one, too - which will be upgraded to ERR/Lionel command one day, I keep saying), but I would be surprised if it was much changed. Probably a few more truck chains and whistle cords and the like, but I imagine that nothing momentous will be different.

That's my opinion and it also depends on your definition of "momentous" - and I'm not one to be turned on by swinging whistles and smoking bells, or whatever it is. Proper proportions, proper size, proper primary features and I'm happy. If you have 3 of the 95's and the cash to do PS-3 in them, by all means do that!
