At the DCS user Group Meeting in October 2012, Dave Hikel described an app he was developing to control trains with the same functionality as the DCS remote. He indicated at that time that a free app that would control one train much like the DCS Commander would be released in 6 months (April 2013?). A second app that would contain all of the features on the DCS remote including multi train operation would be released in approx one year (Oct 2013?). This app would have to be purchased although no price was indicated. I tried the app at the MTH booth last October and was immediately impressed with the potential for more flexibility in train operation and bringing in younger people to the hobby. I have an i[pod touch and felt comfortable with the touch screen operation. There was an extensive thread, I think on the DCS forum last October/November about the pros and cons of operating your trains from an Ipad/touch screen. Some are comfortable with only transformer handles, only remotes and others touch screens so there was some caution in this innovation from some of the forum members. Personally, I like the idea of visually seeing routes trains and functions, etc. on a screen, although I'm 68 yrs old, I embrace the new technology. It ends up being a walk-around control panel.

It's success and acceptance I think will depend on the cost of the app, the functionality is there and those who have a smart phone or Ipad will have no trouble with it.

Maybe Dave or Barry can update or add to this info. Also maybe someone can bookmark the previous discussion on this topic.
