Hello all, I received my MTH DCS WiFi today. I'm testing it using Android and iOS. Here is some of my results so far. Feel free to post questions and answers.
My first test was with the free app on my Apple I-pad, Here is what the free app will do:
Bell and horn
Forward and reverse
Front & rear coupler
Smoke on and off
Engine sound up or down (Global)
Headlight on or off
Add and delete engines
Can run up to 3 engines.
THIS IS ALL THE FREE APP WILL DO! If you are familiar with the DCS remote that comes with the ready to run starter sets, that is basically what you will be getting with the free app. If you want more functions from the MTH app, you will have to download the standard app.
Standard app ($4.99 paid app) running on Android phone.
In a nutshell, you can do everything the DCS handheld can do except for the functions of the AIU.
You may encounter some issues trying to find the USB to serial cable (RS-232). I went to Best Buy and Radio Shack to find my cable. The ones that Best Buy had are only 3 ft. long. I went to Radio Shack and purchased a Gigaware 6 ft. USB-A to Serial cable ($25.00). I purchased a 3 ft. USB to serial adapter cable before I brought the 6 ft. cable. It was too short to reach to my TIU, so I brought a 3ft. USB male to female extension cable to add to adapter cable. The WiFi wasn't receiving all of the messages that was being transmitted to the TIU. I was having some MAJOR communication issues with the extension cable. Once I brought the 6 ft. cable all issues that I was having went away. The response from Android and iOS to WiFi is instantaneous!!! no latency whatsoever. I'm testing the WiFi using an rev.I-3 TIU. I'm going to also test my rev. G and rev.I to see how they will respond with the WiFi. I will post more results as I'm testing the Wifi.......................rogerw.
