The fix is probably a new coupler, but here's a quick test to see if it's mechanical or electrical.

Unplug the coupler connector inside the engine, if it stops opening during operation, it's an electrical issue.  First stop in that case is to look for pinched/chaffed wires and repair them.

If the coupler still opens with the connector disconnected, replace the coupler.
