Does anyone have any MTH ps1 gg1 chips they may want to get rid of. I received a replacement about 2 months ago and installed it. The sound is terrible it sounds like a drum beating in the beginning. I switched chips and the sound works good on them I even change the top boards and the same thing. Joe

Even a chip for a EP5 will work.
You are posting this in the wrong forum as this is the area for Lionel Legacy and TMCC.
As for the chip, why did you order a new one? What are the issues you are having with the sounds? Did you do a reset 18 on it after you installed the chip?
Sorry.
I have both GG-1 and EP-5 chips, but they are going to sound the same as the one you already have, that's just the way they sound.
The EP-5 has a very nasty horn. Order a new chip. MTH will burn you a new one.
Yes Marty, thanks. I talked to Midge Friday about the chip I received from her about a month ago were I get a drum beat and doesn't sound good. At the time when I ordered it all they had was the Conrail chip as they told her. A tech called me and told me they burn them after the conversation with the tech he said he would burn a different one for me. He had said that they had lost a sound file for one of the GG1's. Joe
I think what you are hearing as a drum beat is the sound of a old heavy air compressor. This is the sound of the PS-1 GG-1 sound chips. The sound stops when you are in run, then you hear the traction motor whine. If you are ordering there are at least 2 different chips, one for the green version and one for the red. Different PSA.
That computer has many GG-1 files in it.

I really like the sound of the horn on my NH RailKing PS-1 EP-5 model. That's one reason I haven't upgraded it to TMCC as I don't want to lose it.
The RK and premier were different.
