Decided to try to put back in service a MTH PRR G5 I purchased in 1999 and which has not been run since 2002. Bought a 9 volt battery to use as a temporary power source to see if the loco will run then I was going to spend $30 for a BCR. As the best laid plans of mice and men soon go awry I was unable to remove the old MTH battery for fear of damaging the circuit board. About to give up I tried running the loco before putting it back in storage. Well will wonders never cease - the 4-6-0 ran even if jerky at first. But the more I run it the better it runs and now runs as good as it did 11 years ago. Hard economic times has forced me to buy some WBB locos and even restore some older MTH locos to service. But in 2014 the plans are to buy one Legacy Lionel diesel. Life still is full of surprises - some good.

If it is an MTH steam engine tender that you are trying to replace the battery in, just keep taking screws & nuts off as you will eventually run out of screws & nuts. It took me over 30 minutes to get the battery out of my Reading Crusader cab # 117(PS-1) and then re-install was another 35 to 40 minutes as the screws don't always go back in place right the first time.

Because I live in Florida I do not track charge any engine's battery but use the wall charger from MTH, only costs about $20.00(I might be off a couple of dollars).
