Does anyone know anything about these MTH operating reefers ? Are they still available ?

Hello Dan,
You need to talk to your crew and have them be more careful with the unloading, they're pretty rough on that fruit!
HI All,
What's the MTH Product # on that CAR? I have to have one!!!
Fred
Dan,
You can find these on these secondary market pretty easily. If you are going to York, they can be found there as well. I have 3 of them and will probably get a 4th if I find the one I'm looking for at York. All work great. The only thing that is a bit of a pain if loading the smoke fluid. It's much easier if you use a smoke fluid dispenser. I use the ones from JT's Mega-Steam. Here's what I'm referring to:

The tip of the dispenser fits into the tube much easier than the end of the tip on the smoke fluid which comes with the reefer. The tube connects the dispenser with the reservoir inside the reefer.
Regards,
Greg
Now I have TWO Questions: What is the MTH Product # on these CARS?
GUNRUNNER: Can these CARs be Modified w/ an ERR Circuit so it can be
operated anywhere on your Layout?

clever
I have one in the closet slated to get a TMCC upgrade. For Fred's question, the answer is yes.

Is there supposed to be a link there somewhere?
I just looked on Ebay under "MTH operating reefer car" and several similar type cars came up, just not an identical car to the one shown in the video. I own the MTH Tropicana reefer car and think it is a pretty fun car to operate.

Or, if you don't have Lionel command-control you can make a DIY modification to operate these remotely. It requires assembling and working with small electronic components and modules so not suitable for most guys. But can be done for about $5-10 per car. Retro-fitting a UCS or 5-rail activation track into an existing layout could be a hassle. Also, my understanding is some track systems don't like the 4th/5th rail power pickup slider shoes which could be removed if using a remote-control method.
The build instructions are written up here on the JCS archive site. The site seems to be having problems at the moment so here's a photo summarizing components involved and a video:

There are 7 or 8 versions. Like someone else stated, just search "operating reefer" on the MTH Homepage. Off the top of my head:
PRR, SF, Cloverleaf, Hoods, Fruit Growers Express, Mathieson Dry Ice, Iron City Beer......
