MTH question engine issues wont run

IS the draw bar bent and touching center rail?  It may need adjustment.

Dc is ok.  This engine has the board in the engine, but the sounds and battery in the tender.  It is probably an older PS-2 5V system.

To run in conventional it needs to have a fully charged battery (This one may be to old to hold a charge).

Not sure why the seller didn't demonstrate with tender and Z-1000.  Sounds like they knew it may have had issues.

Does it still start up when you apply power?   G

I tried it a couple of times, its more like there is a short. The drawbar sparks, and pops apart, a tender wheel sparked. When I tried again last night, the sound started up, I did get the whistle to go, and the bell, but then when I hit the direction switch to start it rolling, the headlight went out, & it wouldnt move. It does different reactions each time. It wont even do anything at all if the drawbar is not connected

I would try a new battery.  Temporarily, you can use a regular 9 volt alkaline battery to see if that will solve the problem.  If it does, then you need to get an MTH battery or a BCR (which I would recommend).  

None of his symptoms have to do with a battery.  You need to take it to an MTH tech and have it looked at.  It could be mis-wired inside, or who knows.  No way the drawbar should spark and pop apart!  G

Thanks everyone, but I contacted the seller, and he refunded my purchase. Ran off to the local O gauge shop and had fun
