Hello,

I am returning to O Gauge, and I bought an older MTH set last friday, B&O 4-6-2 PS2 w/3 Psgr Cars & Z1000. When the seller went to test it, he didnt have a regular O power pack, so he used an HO DC pack, and said that they run on DC after its converted anyway. The test track was like only 30" long - it ran ok, but the tender also wasnt hitched to the engine (metal bar i mean)

So tonite I tried it out with the Z1000, and it wouldnt run - sound came on, but at first, no whistle or bell. When I did get it to move finally it ran fast about 10" and the tender/engine bar was sparking, and then it stopped.

Did this guy screw it up by using DC to test it, or is it just having other issues?

Thanks

Tim

IS the draw bar bent and touching center rail?  It may need adjustment.

Dc is ok.  This engine has the board in the engine, but the sounds and battery in the tender.  It is probably an older PS-2 5V system.

To run in conventional it needs to have a fully charged battery (This one may be to old to hold a charge).

Not sure why the seller didn't demonstrate with tender and Z-1000.  Sounds like they knew it may have had issues.

Does it still start up when you apply power?   G

I tried it a couple of times, its more like there is a short. The drawbar sparks, and pops apart, a tender wheel sparked. When I tried again last night, the sound started up, I did get the whistle to go, and the bell, but then when I hit the direction switch to start it rolling, the headlight went out, & it wouldnt move. It does different reactions each time. It wont even do anything at all if the drawbar is not connected
