MTH Railking Scale F3 ABA Lighting Question

I just got this brand new mth railking scale f3 union pacific aba diesel engine set with proto sound 3.0 it was released in 2012. I am no expert on real or model train lighting and how it works, I noticed that the powered A unit lights are nice and bright but when moving in reverse the rear non powered A unit lights are dimmer than the powered front and also is it prototypical for the main front unit to only have the flashing mars light.
